Nowadays, most companies need to have data stored on compute servers, but it’s still not always the case.
While cloud services like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure offer many different types of services, they’re usually limited to certain kinds of workloads.
While many data warehouses, such as Amazon’s Redshift, offer multiple storage solutions to house data, they can’t handle large-scale data sets like those of Netflix.
To address that limitation, IBM and the University of Toronto are teaming up to create the first compute-only storage solution for enterprise applications.
The two companies are collaborating on the project, called Open Cloud Storage, and they’ll be presenting their vision of Open Cloud to the cloud industry at the IAM Global Developers Conference in San Francisco next week.
While the Open Cloud Solution for enterprise is intended to address a specific kind of data storage, the two companies also hope it will also help businesses in the same way that cloud-based storage has for consumers.
For the next three years, IBM is working on a set of tools that will help enterprise customers to access and manage their data, which is now a vast amount of data.
IBM’s cloud services already include the Power BI, the Cloud Service Framework, and the Data Center Management Framework, which provides a set in which data is stored in virtual machines on cloud servers.
This makes it easier for enterprise customers that are trying to run applications and perform data analysis.
The Open Cloud Solutions are meant to enable data to be accessed from anywhere in the organization, regardless of whether it’s on a server or on a cloud-hosted service.
It also allows the storage to be distributed across the organization.
The companies believe this will allow the data to fit within a single virtual machine, which will make it easier to manage the data.
The company hopes this will be a game-changer for data storage and enterprise applications, since data on cloud storage services is typically very large.
They say that by allowing data to run on a single host, they’ll allow enterprise applications to access it without having to move large amounts of data to and from the cloud.
The Open Cloud solutions are designed to help organizations move data from one physical storage to another.
The two companies say that while this project is not yet ready to ship, they believe it will be ready for prime time by 2019.
We can expect the project to be a critical component of the OpenCloud platform, which IBM is currently working on with a number of partners.
