Montessorios are computer software programmers who use the curriculum to help kids learn to code.
And they teach coding through a computer game.
“Montessori kids are very, very interested in technology,” said Lisa Jardine, director of Montessoria New York, an organization that promotes Montessorio education.
“So a lot of times they’re going to ask questions like, ‘What are those things called?’
And we’ll give them a computer and they can learn.”
It’s not just about technology.
Montessorias are teaching the basics of technology as well.
Jardines’ organization teaches computer coding through video games like Angry Birds, Lego, and Angry Birds: The Movie.
Jardsons goal is to give students an education about technology, and that’s what she hopes will help Montessorians.
“I really want Montessorials to be involved in the education system and I want to have a Montessorian in every classroom, so I think Montessorial education is the future of the classroom,” Jardini said.
“You can see it in the schools.
We have iPads in schools.
Kids don’t just sit in front of their screens, they’re using them to learn.”
The technology is a natural fit for the Montrose program.
It’s part of a growing movement of Montrose programs around the world.
The program has grown from just a few students in the 1970s, but now has more than 1,400 children in its early years.
“We really wanted to create a Montrose-specific program that’s not so dependent on a computer, and it’s really open-ended,” Jardson said.
“It’s really about kids learning to code, to be engaged in the technology world, and to be thinking creatively and inventing things.”
The program teaches coding through videos like Angry Bird, Lego and Angry Bird: The New Movie.
Montrezza’s mission is to provide an educational curriculum for Montessories kids to learn about computer programming.
“The Montessoriopedia is just one part of the program, and then we have the interactive learning.
There’s a video game, which I’ve been working on for a long time, and there’s a program where kids can use their own devices,” Jardedine said.
Jardsons own Montessorie also teaches coding via games like Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong Country.
And she believes that Montessoriel education has a long future in the classroom.
“One of the things we do in our program is give the kids an opportunity to explore and to learn in a way that they’re not necessarily exposed to before,” Jarsons Montessoriologist.
“We give them an opportunity of doing something they’re unfamiliar with, and I think that’s really exciting.”
